"Computer Geeks and Nerds"
April 15, 2003

What led you to be a web mistress?

I became a web mistress when I decided to create a classroom web site. I wanted a child friendly site that my students could navigate without my help. So I created a site with fun links and educational activities. Students that have access to the internet at home can view their spelling words and homework on-line, too. It's a fun way to communicate with my students, parents, and other teachers.

How did you get so techno-savvy when a lot of women your age
(no matter what your age is)
have trouble even turning on a computer?

I attended a basic workshop (Computers in the Classroom) in 1999 through the school system. I was taught the following software: Windows, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint. At the completion of my 16 hours of training, I received an additional computer desk, computer, printer, and scanner for my classroom. However, I did not have any training on creating web pages. I basically taught myself through books like Creating Web Pages FOR DUMMIES and teachers I have met on the internet.
